Sandur means “sand” in Icelandic, continuing my Language of Sand series, where each artwork carries the word sand in a different language.
The sand used in this painting was personally collected by me at Vārzas Beach in Latvia - a place connected to many of my childhood memories and one I continue to return to.
Its natural texture is left intentionally raw and imperfect. Combined with simple geometric forms and a quiet palette of sand, warm grey and white, it creates a tactile composition that feels both grounded and light.
I have always been drawn to the way nature changes a place slowly - through wind, water, weather and time. Nothing is completely even or permanent. The same feeling remains visible in SANDUR through its rough surfaces, irregular edges and subtle imperfections.
